It’s looking like Punxsutawney Phil got it wrong.
Yes, that’s how you spell it. I looked it up!
Anyway, he predicted 6 more weeks of winter. Well the trees are starting to bud, it’s 65 degrees and the snow is melting. We even spotted bear tracks on one of our ski runs yesterday. Not good. If the bears are out this early, it could mean that we’ve seen the last of winter.
A couple years ago we had to close a few runs because a bear den opened up early. A momma bear and her cubs were strolling around and hanging out right under one of our lifts. People got a kick out of being able to ride a chairlift and have bears right under them. Talk about extra incentive not to fall off.
But all this means we’re really going to struggle to stay open to April. It also makes my job a million times more difficult. It’s hard to talk people out of mountain biking or going to the park to come and ski slushy snow.
What the heck happened to winter? I love hiking and all that, but it shouldn’t be time yet!
Go away Spring, I’m not interested.
